- Remote range drops to almost nothing. The receiver is on the logic board. When it starts failing, you’ll be standing under the opener waving the remote like a wand before it responds. The board’s signal amplifier is dying.
- Wall button works, remotes don’t. This points straight at the RF section of the board. If the wall console still opens and closes the door, the motor and limit switches are fine. The board just isn’t hearing the remotes anymore.
- Door stops halfway and reverses for no reason. The board reads the force sensors and decides whether to keep pushing. A failing board misreads that signal and thinks it hit something on the floor. It’s the opener equivalent of a paranoid smoke detector.
- The opener forgets its settings. Reprogrammed the travel limits last month and now they’re gone again? The memory chip on the board is failing. We’ve seen boards that need reprogramming every two weeks until swapped.
- Burning smell near the opener motor head. This one’s simple: get the unit unplugged from the ceiling outlet and call us. A scorched board or capacitor can leave you with a door that won’t move and a fire hazard you don’t need.

Swap the bulb, test the range. That costs nothing.
What isn’t safe is opening the motor housing and poking around. The logic board sits next to the capacitor, and a charged capacitor can knock you across the garage even with the unit unplugged.
